
David Edwards, founder of Artscience Labs and a Harvard University professor, is author of the seminal books of ArtScience Labs – Artscience: Creativity in the Post-Google Generation (Harvard University Press 2008) and The Lab: Experiments in ArtScience (Harvard University Press) – and a creator of several of its first innovations. David oversees all the activities of ArtScience Labs. He works closely with the ArtScience Labs directors and many of the creators in the labs. Bob Carson is based in the United States headquarters of ArtScience Labs in Waltham, Massachusetts. Bob is an attorney and Managing Director of Northstar Advisors, a wealth management company, and serves as the Business and Finance Director of ArtScience Labs. Bob has worked closely with David Edwards from the start of ArtScience Labs. Prior to starting Northstar Advisors, Bob was a tax partner at Ernst and Young in Boston, where he managed the firm’s Personal Financial Counseling practice. Bob is active with a number of charities, including the American Heart Association, where he served as National Chairman.

Carrie Fitzsimmons is based in Boston at Cloud Place. An art administrator, Carrie is Founding Director of the ArtScience Prize. Prior to joining ArtScience Labs, Carrie was Chief of Staff at the Institute for Contemporary Art in Boston. in 2008 she was selected as one of 30 international leaders to participate in the Getty Museum's Leadership Institute. As a Director of ArtScience Labs, she brings several years of cultural organization and nonprofit management experience where she oversees all activities related to the ArtScience Prize and leads international strategy particularly as it relates to ArtScience Lab partners internationally. She is a Connector for Boston World Partnerships and a Fellow for the RSA.

Tom Hadfield is based in Paris at Labogroup. Founder of the world’s most popular soccer website at 12 years of age, later co-founder of Schoolsnet and chosen as one of 100 Global Leaders of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 2001, Tom has pursued an exciting life of entrepreneurship. After graduating from Harvard University in 2008, Tom joined Labogroup as Chief Operating Officer. Tom represents Labogroup as a Director of ArtScience Labs and oversees all ArtScience Lab operations.

Xavière Masson is based at Le Laboratoire in Paris. An executive administrator with experience in artistic practice, Xavière has worked closely with David Edwards and moved between various labs within the ArtScience Labs network, from Boston to Cambridge to Paris, and has served in many roles including Cloud Foundation International Exchange Coordinator and Nuage France Director. Xavière is international Operations Manager of ArtScience Labs and works closely with each of the ArtScience Lab directors.

The artistic Director of Le Laboratoire, Caroline led, prior to joining ArtScience Labs, curatorial programming for the French city of Lille from 2001 through 2006, during which time Lille served as the European Capital of Culture. Before this, she studied art history at the Louvre and worked in curatorial positions at the Centre Pompidou. Caroline oversees all artistic experiments and exhibitions at Le Laboratoire. As a Director of ArtScience Labs, Caroline oversees activities related to Le Laboratoire and works closely with other directors to facilitate idea translation from educational to cultural settings, or from the cultural setting of Le Laboratoire to commercial and humanitarian environments.

With more than 20 years of executive experience in the retail, manufacturing and food industries, José is President of Labogroup and leads the management of idea translation projects between Labogroup and the educational and cultural labs of ArtScience Labs. Before joining Labogroup, José managed business operations for the double Michelin-starred chef Thierry Marx, with whom he co-founded the Foodlab at Le Laboratoire. Previously, José was the managing director of several product development and manufacturing companies in Europe and Asia, and he worked for several years in the financial markets in Paris and Madrid.

Hugo Van Vuuren is based at Harvard University where is he is a Fellow at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and manages The Laboratory at Harvard. As Director of Artscience Labs he works closely with David Edwards to manage special situations in the Artscience Lab network and emerging activities in the developing world. Born and raised in South Africa, his endeavors and research focus on Africa and the intersection between design, technology, and innovation. He was selected as a 2009 PopTech Social Innovation Fellow and a TED2010 Fellow.
